The Royal Caribbean Group announced today that 48 of the passengers on the cruise ship Symphony of the Seas tested positive for Covid-19, raising concerns about the cruise sector recovery amid a pandemic and the spread of the Omicron variant.
The company reported that were riding in total 6.091 passengers and crew on this ship, which had set sail on December 11 and returned to Miami the Saturday.
Passengers tested positive were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms. Six of them disembarked before the cruise was over and were taken home.
According to Royal Caribbean the 95% of passengers and crew members were fully vaccinated. The 98% of those found positive in new coronavirus it was also vaccinated.
The cruise ship schedule will not be affected, the company added.
