Homicron – Which vaccines do not provide protection against the new variant – New York Times article

Chills for those who have not been vaccinated with mRNA, ie Pfizer and Moderna, as according to a New York Times article, adenovirus vaccines offer almost no defense against Omicron.

What are these:

AstraZeneca
Johnson & Johnson
Sinopharm
Sinovac
Sputnik

Serious illness is probably avoided

An increasing volume of preliminary research shows that the Covid-19 vaccines used in most of the world offer almost no protection against infection by the highly contagious Omicron variant.

All vaccines continue to appear to provide a significant degree of protection against severe Omicron disease, which is the most critical target.

However, only Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, when boosted with a booster dose, appear to be successful in stopping infections, and these vaccines are not available in most parts of the world.

Other vaccines – including those from AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, and vaccines made in China and Russia – do not appear to be effective in stopping the pandemic from spreading.

It is worth noting that most data so far are based on laboratory experiments

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines use the new mRNA technology, which consistently offers the best protection against infection with any variant. All other vaccines are based on older methods of triggering an immune response.

The Chinese Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines – which make up almost half of all vaccines worldwide – offer almost zero protection against Omicron infection.

A preliminary study of the effectiveness of vaccines in Britain found that the Oxford-AstraZeneca formulation did not show the ability to stop Omicron infection six months after vaccination. 90% of people vaccinated in India get this vaccine, called Covishield. It has also been widely used in sub-Saharan Africa, where Covax, the global Covid-19 vaccine program, has distributed 67 million doses of it to 44 countries.

Vaccinated people are twenty times more at risk

The Moderna vaccine (mRNA), on the other hand, appears to increase the antibody against Homicron 37-fold with the 3rd dose.

For the unvaccinated, CDC research has shown that they are 20 times more likely to die and 10 times more likely to be infected.
