Israel: The first death from the Omicron variant was recorded in the country

Israel has recorded its first known death from the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, according to Israeli media that broadcast today that a man, about 70 years old, with underlying diseases, died in the city of Beer Sheva on Monday.

The patient ended up at Soroka Medical Center and had underlying diseases, the Times of Israel and Ynet news, the online English-language edition of the Gentiot Ahronot newspaper, write today.

Both media outlets report that the man was over 60 years old and had taken both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine but not a third, booster dose.

The Ministry of Health and Soroka were not immediately available to respond to a request to confirm the information. Earlier, the Ministry of Health announced that there are at least 340 known cases of Omicron in Israel.
