Two funding decisions of € 560 million to support access to quality education for refugees in Turkey, as well as access to higher education and immigration and border protection in general, have been approved by the European Commission.

These funds are part of the additional € 3 billion mentioned by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in June 2021, when she announced the continuation of EU support for refugees in Turkey for the period 2021-2023.

The new funding, said Neighborhood and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varchelli, “will ensure that hundreds of thousands of refugee children can continue to go to school and receive quality education, which is key to securing future employment and of the overall socio-economic recovery “.

In particular, the first measure concerns € 530 million in inclusive support for quality inclusive education for refugees in Turkey and access to higher education, in particular through scholarships.
