A meeting will be held today at noon to control the spread of the coronavirus in Lesvos, in the meeting room of the North Aegean Region in Mytilene.
With yesterday (Tuesday, December 21) 84 new cases of the disease on the island announced by EODY, the number of infections reached 1,237 in the first 21 days of December. A number that has remained stable at the same high levels for almost two months and specifically since the end of October when the coronavirus spread to the community from the celebrations for Agios Dimitrios and the 28th of October. In November the number of cases reached 2,000, a very large number in relation to the population of the island. In the school community almost 800 students primary and secondary education have been ill since the beginning of the school year.
The responsible vice-governor Panagos Koufelos, speaking at ERT Aegean Station, stressed that “we will redefine the control measures which will be in force and we will consider the possibility of increasing the controls as well as the recommendations for carrying out more diagnostic tests. We do not decide whether further measures will be imposed, these are decided by the competent ministries and the Civil Protection with which we are in contact “.
